We’re past the Spring equinox, and despite some tempestuous weather, it looks like the world is ready to move on from a gloomy Winter into something bursting with promise. The pharmaceutical technology industry is always evolving, and this issue of IPT is testament to the sector’s push for excellence.

Opening this issue and our Imaging & Sensing topic is Provepharm, with a deep-dive into fluorescence-guided surgery (page 8). This is followed by Revvity and its article on how pH-responsive internalisation assays are reframing mechanisms of action in pharma (page 12).

Heading IPT’s Discovery & Development section is Illumina, looking into the promise of multi-omics in drug discovery & development (page 16), while SynGenSys focuses on genomics and the synthetic design of genetic elements (page 20).

IPT always showcases companies at the forefront of the Digital space, which invariably involves artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI&ML). This edition, ACD/Labs highlights how AI&ML are changing the landscape of pharma technology (page 24); Sapio Sciences looks at deliberately structured AI ecosystems in DD&D (page 27); and Mareana explains what virtual pharma is and how they offer a different way of working for contract development and manufacturing organisations (CDMOs) (page 30).

CARBOGEN AMCIS leads this issue’s Manufacturing section with a showcase on early phase development, and the importance of the early involvement of CDMOs (page 32). Resilience tells IPT about how new technologies are being implemented to develop soft skills in pharma manufacturing (page 35), and Syntegon Technology offers a look at gloveless aseptic pharma manufacturing (page 38). IPT then sits down with Mettler-Toledo to discuss advanced contamination detection systems in good manufacturing processes (page 42).

Closing IPT Spring 2026 are two Lab Design articles: IQVIA Laboratories’ piece on the value of site-to-lab digitalisation, lab trial management systems, and end-to-end biobanking and specimen life cycle management in improving clinical labs (page 46); and Elemental Machines’ on agentic AI systems in life sciences labs (page 50).

Also in the spirit of fresh changes in Spring, IPT is proud to announce its partnership with Laboratory News! Laboratory News is a leading resource for lab professionals across industry, contract research organisations, public institutions and academia, and will be working side by side with IPT moving forwards to further access to industry-leading conversations in the labs sector.

IPT hopes you enjoyed its first issue of 2026, and welcomes you back in July for its Summer issue!
