Welcome to the Summer issue of IPT, an issue that has been great to jump into as an interim editor of the publication! As the industry events slow down in the hotter months, IPT does no such thing and this issue demonstrates perfectly how pharmaceutical technology continues to innovate.

Kicking off this issue is a leading piece on Imaging and Sensing from ZEISS Microscopy, discussing the benefits of photonics and microscopy within the pharma industry (page 8). Following this is an article from Refeyn, delving into the realm of mass photometry (page 12).

IPT’s Discovery and Development section is fit to burst in this edition, including articles from FUJIFILM Cellular Dynamics, exploring iPSC technology and how it can be used for research and cell therapies (page 15). Additionally, we hear from Semarion about cell-based workflows for drug screening needs (page 18); and MaxCyte, shining a light on next-generation cell therapy discovery and developments (page 29).

Our Manufacturing focus topic includes comments from Honeywell Life Sciences, touching on innovative technology within life sciences manufacturing (page 38). We also hear from Hongene, discussing the growing demand for oligonucleotide drugs manufacturing (page 42). DTG contributes to this section as well, bringing autonomous manufacturing into the mix to improve chemistry, manufacturing and controls (page 46).

Moving into the Digital space, Astraveus explores how cell therapy manufacturing is being reinvented through microfluidics (page 50), and CAS highlights how to correctly use artificial intelligence in drug discovery (page 53).

To close our issue, the Lab Design focus topic includes a piece from Körber Pharma, discussing the benefits of automating visual inspection machines (page 56). Our final piece comes from Lab Thread, commenting on the digitisation of the pharma industry and how this can cause potential issues with employee retention (page 59).
